Rónán O’Casey (1421)

Rónán O’Casey

Through a number of agreements, pacts, and alliances, the O’Caseys and other smaller clans in the area have banded together to provide some resistance to the Kelly’s, O’Tooles and O’Reillys. Frankly, you are all tired of being pushed around and used as pawns in their wars against the English. You hate the English as much as anyone, but its about time you got your share. To this end, you have been “elected” the leader of “the rest”. Your short reign as leader has been miserable. The smaller, clans are suffering from a famine that has left the fields bare. The larger clans don’t seem to be impacted that much, or not that you can see. To make matters worse, two weeks ago you lost your wife to a ‘hunting’ accident. You don’t really believe she died while hunting for game. Her body was too mangled. Something is out there hunting your people.

Two weeks ago, you received an invite to a social to be hosted by the Prestons in Dunne Boyne. This will give you the perfect opportunity to strike a few deals and improve your lot in life. Hopefully, you can make it better for the people you are representing, also. This brings us to the motley bunch you have assembled. You may as well give up hope now, but sometimes things work out for the best.

The dance/joust was called by Cormac O’Reilly and is being held on the Preston Estate. Cormac has offered his sister, Generis, to the winner of the jousting tournament. All of the area nobles and their flunkies will be there. You need to secure an alliance to make sure your people survive. Whether it’s your Cousin Conall and his protégé Fáelán winning the jousting tournament or marrying off one of your twin sisters, Dearbháil and Gráinne, to the highest bidder; it does not matter, your Clan must survive this famine.

The other Irish clan will all be in attendance. The O’Toole’s are notorious English haters. This could be play to your advantage if you can blame them for something and take over there land. Next, the Leader of the Clans Is Cormac O’Reilly. He is a strong Irishman. As head of all clans, he is the lead judge and arbitrator when two clans have a dispute. You don’t know much about the Kelly Clan except that you don’t mess with them at all. Mysterious things always seem to happen around them.

Your safest bet is making absolutely sure Connall win the jousting tournament. This would secure an alliance with the leader of the Clans. There will be plenty of Englishmen at the joust though, if one of your fellow Clan members doesn’t want to help you out, then maybe the English would. Even the unfortunate death of an Englishman at the joust would be welcome and probably render the killer as a hero. Everyone seems to want a piece of your twin sisters, but they are influenced a great deal by Áine O’Reilly through that cursed sewing circle. If you can find out what seals that bond, you might have an easier time getting them married off. Finally, your cousin, Cináed Lynch, has been talking about some Welsh coming to the tournament. If you could get the Welsh on your side, you might be able to just seize power outright.

What is this?
