Donnchad O’Toole (1421)

Donnchad O’Toole
O’Toole Clan Leader

You are the head of an Irish clan has lived in Meath as long as anyone can remember. Although you don’t have large amount of land, you do carry the respect of the other clans. That respect has waned in the face of the current famine. Your people are starving. Your dogs are dying. You could normally get food from Dublin, but there is a plague in the city, and no one will approach. This weekend, your clan has been invited to a dance/joust sponsored by Cormac O’Reilly, leader of all the Irish clans. Your spies indicate that the whole thing is a thinly veiled attempt to get the English and Irish together to see if they can help each other out without looking too friendly. Cormac has offered his sister, Generis, as a prize to get people to come. You have brought 4 with you.

Bressal is your 1st cousin and best friend. You two grew up together. You are the brains, and he is the enforcer. Bressal is entering the jousting competition. If he wins that’s great, because it will get you an “in” on the horse-trading.

Fiachu is your mother’s uncle and long pain in your side. He feels that he should lead the clan leadership, even though it was your father that died. Openly, he supports you and your brethren. Privately, he’ll screw you at every turn.

Fergus grew up as nice as can be, and then the hunting accident. He was gored and his brother killed. Since then, he’s been a nut-job. He only goes out at night and you keep receiving reports of food stores burning in Dublin on the days he is gone…good for him. Even though you can’t really count of Fergus for much, everyone is scared of him, so he’s good to have around. He keeps talking about having some Welsh friends in this weekend…They could prove very useful.

Áine is your virginal sister who is leader of the local sewing circle. She brings you idle gossip from the other clans, and is a huge, untapped asset.

The Kelly’s are a secretive clan that hates the English with an extreme passion. They are fearless warriors, and are a clan to be feared if their ire is raised.

The O’Reilly’s are the most powerful clan in the region and thus the leaders of the Irish clans. Cormac is a shrewd leader. You will have to work hard to make sure he gets you the food your people need. He is run by his wife, the guard is a spendthrift, and his brother is single…getting food and land should be cake.

Last, there are the O’Casey’s. They are extremely disorganized, but have one notable asset - the twins. This pair of ladies would be a fine addition to any man’s list of conquests. They are in the sewing club with your sister Áine and often meet on the Cormac’s estate with Generis O’Reilly.

You need to gain food and land for your people by any means necessary, preferably at the English expense. Making sure that Bressal wins the joust is a good start. Winning familial ties to O’Reilly’s could prove very useful. If you could set up Fiachu for disaster, then you could really consolidate your power.

What is this?
