Sir Valentine Theobald (1421)

Sir Valentine Theobald
Knight – Order of the Black Hawthorn

You were born to a family in London that lived off the streets. You and your sister made money as best you could, through prostitution and intimidation. She was good looking enough to keep the company of lesser nobles in the city, and you were big enough to take “protection money” from some of the local merchants.

One day she was attending the party of a new Lord (Moyglare), and caught the man’s eye. Through her guile and charm, she completely deceived him. They married 3 months later and you were made a knight out of the deal.

Training with the sword and lance came easy, and after a few months Henry V assembled a force to invade France. Lord Moyglare took you with and unknowingly left Isabella to screw anything she could get her hands on. The campaign in France was only 3 months, and ended in Agincourt – the great English victory. You fought bravely, but unexceptionally. Moyglare was injured after being sick for 3 days. A French prisoner named Guy leBlanc, who ended up coming back as Moyglare’s personal aide, saved him.

Since your return, Isabella has held a particular fascination with Guy leBlanc; you’ve never seen her attached to anyone like that. Of course, it hasn’t stopped her from sleeping around, but that’s another story.

It turns out that Moyglare is the Lord of part of Ireland - a part of Ireland that doesn’t exist. Irishmen have taken it over. 5 years ago all he and his contingent moved to Dublin and now you all live on a manor inside the city. You have made good friends with his trusted guard, William Hughes and practice jousting and sword fighting with him and the other two guards regularly.

Here is what you know:
• Isabella is a very popular woman in Dublin, and William is but one of her MANY lovers. Both Moyglare and William think they are the only ones…
• Michael Phillips tries to advise Moyglare, but for some reason, the lord won’t listen. Nothing seems is able to get Moyglare to stray too far from leBlanc.
• The plague in Dublin is terrible, but not nearly as bad as the famine hitting the Irish who live beyond the Pale.

This weekend Moyglare has arranged a meeting with the Irish leader in the town of Dun Boyne. They are going to attempt to stabilize relations so that each can deal with his particular calamity. They are holding a dance and a joust. The prize for the joust is the sister of the Irish Leader, Generis O’Reilly. You have heard rumors that she is a fine woman and would provide many good children who are well connected inside and outside of Dublin. It wouldn’t be above you to find a way to sabotage the outcome of the joust…maybe if you enlisted Isabella’s help.
